Clinical counseling services for all UMA students are available at both campuses.

We’re located in 195F Jewett Hall on the Augusta campus and in 126 Eastport Hall on the Bangor campus.

Counseling can be a great resource to help enhance your academic success as well as your overall college experience. UMA counselors provides a safe, non-judgmental setting where you can discuss your challenges and get support. You and the?clinical?counselor work together to agree on what issues you want to address, and what you want to get out of the counseling process.

Counseling can have many lasting benefits including: improved coping and problem solving skills, improved ability to deal with difficult situations and emotions, decrease in problematic emotional and mental health symptoms, increased self-awareness, improved communication and relationship skills, identification of individual strengths, and an overall increased ability to face life’s challenges.

北京快3代理UMA clinical counselors also provide education, training and consultation to faculty and staff, and work to maintain a University environment which is conducive to growth and maximizing the college experience.

Students seek counseling for many reasons such as (but not limited to):

  • Stress management
  • Problems at home or in relationships
  • Anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns
  • Academic issues
  • Drug and alcohol use
  • Domestic violence
  • Crisis intervention
  • Future planning
  • Referral to community resources

Eligibility

Individual services are available?free of charge北京快3代理 to all currently enrolled UMA students.

Limits of Service

Counseling at UMA is primarily a short-term service. Student concerns that involve more intensive care, certain specializations or hospitalization will be referred to mental health providers in the community.

Appointments

Initial, non-emergency appointments are usually available within one week of the request.? For counseling emergencies outside of scheduled UMA Counseling office hours, please call the state of Maine statewide crisis and counseling number: 1-888-568-1112. To make an appointment, or to learn more about the available services, contact the offices listed above.

Confidentiality

Counseling is confidential. Contact made with the counselor and the information resulting from individual sessions does not become a part of your official student record. Such information can be released only with your written permission.

The exceptions to confidentiality, as mandated by state law include:

  • When the information disclosed relates to clear and imminent danger to self or others;
  • When the information disclosed leaves reason to believe that a child or vulnerable adult has been, or is likely to be abused or neglected;
  • When the information is requested by a valid court order.

Any disclosure in these situations will be made to an appropriate authority and will be limited to material directly related to the issue involved.
